Inerting Systems Reduce the Risk of Aircraft Fuel Tank Flammability

The elimination of flammable fuel vapors in commercial and military aircraft is a major priority in both the US and Europe.  Lightweight, on-board aircraft fuel tank inerting systems elegantly address this issue and can be easily fitted within existing aircraft designs.  PTI Technologies inerting system delivers nitrogen-enriched air to the aircraft fuel tanks thereby reducing the risk of fuel tank flammability.  PTI Technologies has developed filtration systems that ensure the source of engine bleed air is free from both particulate and liquid contamination to protect the sensitive air separation modules and ensuring long service life.  These filter systems are flying today on the Embraer E2 Jet.

Not surprisingly, the biggest maintenance costs faced by airlines today come from engine and landing gear maintenance; however, the next highest component maintenance cost is for the Air Separation Module (ASM) part of the Fuel Tank Inerting System (FTIS – Airbus) or Nitrogen Generating System (NGS – Boeing), so the smart use of PTI Technologies inerting technology can save costs for the OEM as well as the airline.
